The annual gathering of the Old Settlers was held on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Winona Middle School. The day’s activities included a social hour, a delicious lunch served by Future Farmers of American (FFA) students, entertainment by the Cedar Valley Blue Grass Ensemble, the Fountain City Singers, and an impersonator, Angie Scott, who addressed the group in the persona of Old Settler Emma Sheldon, recognized as “a person of color” who for years operated a downtown Winona beauty salon—an astute businesswoman, community supporter and active church member. After Association president Bob Bambenek conducted the business meeting, Dave Kiral provided music for dancing. The oldest man and the oldest woman present, and the longest-married couple, were recognized. Door prizes were donated by City of Winona and county businesses.
